April 16, 2007 (Malta) – The WSOP is going to be very different this year. Last year, there were thousands of players sitting in seats they’d won at one of the many online poker rooms that awarded the registration fee as an online tournament prize. With fewer sites open to American players, there aren’t many hosting online satellite tournaments this year. Definitely no one else offering THIRTEEN chances to get to the WSOP for free or close to it!

playersonly.net has announced not one but two major WSOP promotions with $150,000 in prize money between them – two ways for bracelet-chasers to win their way to the Big One:

The 1st Way – Win the World Series Low Bid Auction
The winning bidder in the “Players Only World Series Low Bid Auction” which began last week will get a prize package that includes airfare, accommodation, and a seat to enter the World Series of Poker for the amount of their winning bid – which could be a buck or less if it’s the lowest amount with only one bid on it.

The 2nd Way – Win a Weekly World Series Tournament
The twelve winners of the weekly “Players Only World Series Free Roll” tournaments that begin this week will also receive the $12K World Series prize package. Each Sunday beginning April 8th, playersonly.net hosts a multi-table Texas Hold ‘Em tournament. Each and every week, they’ll award a $12,000 World Series Prize Package to the winner. Players can even win free seats at the Sunday night playoff by winning a qualifying free roll through the week (or they can just buy-in on Sunday for $100).

The WSOP says they are preparing for even more players at the Main Event this year but since perhaps half of last year’s players won their way to Vegas online, and since playersonly.net is one of just a few online poker rooms offering online qualifiers this year, it seems more likely that the event will decrease rather than increase in size. This is good news and bad news for poker players. The good news is that for those that will be playing the Main Event, there will be fewer people to play through to get to the money. The bad news is that for those who can't afford $10,000 to play the Main Event and were counting on winning their way in, they are going to have a lot fewer chances to do so.
